What you can register for

You can register online for key programs with more than one level of government in the same session. This convenient service is available from your home and office anywhere in Canada well past normal business hours, and on Saturdays, saving you time and duplicated effort.

The easy-to-answer business questions guide you through the registration process. Helpful features, such as pop-up messages are displayed when missing or incorrect information is entered. There is also a toll-free help desk telephone number and secure state-of-the-art encryption and security procedures. Users are given steps to follow to further protect their private information.

CRA Programs

Along with registering for a Business Number, you can register for these accounts:

  • GST/HST (goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax)
    • If the business' mailing address is in Quebec, we will offer the option to be directed to the Revenu Québec web site or you can call them at 1-800-567-4692 to register a GST/HST account.
  • payroll deductions
  • import/export
  • corporate income tax account
    • This account may be automatically created once you register a business that is a corporation.

Nova Scotia programs

  • a business name with the Registry of Joint Stock Companies
  • a Nova Scotia Workers' Compensation Board account
  • various Nova Scotia licenses and permits

Ontario programs

  • register or renew a business name with the Ministry of Government Services
  • apply for these accounts:
    • Ontario Retail Sales Tax
    • Ontario Employer Health Tax
    • Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Board

You need to register a business name with the Province of Ontario if you are not operating under your exact legal name. There is a $60 registration fee, which you can pay on-line using your credit card.

British Columbia programs

  • a Social Services Tax account
  • a Hotel Room Tax account
  • a WorkSafeBC account
  • an Incorporation of BC Companies account

If you have a problem with making a credit card payment you should contact the province to which you are sending your payment. The CRA does not retain credit card information and forwards it on the province charging the fee for its program. The CRA does not validate the credit card information and there is no actual charge when credit card information is input into the BRO service.
