Results of the Cardiovascular Complications of Diabetes Strategic Initiative

The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health in partnership with the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Institute of Aboriginal Peoples' Health, the Institute of Infection and Immunity, the Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Pfizer Canada, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes) and Health Canada is pleased to announce the results of the Cardiovascular Complications of Diabetes Strategic Initiative.

A total of 29 Cardiovascular Complications of Diabetes: New Discoveries: High-Risk Seed Grants were received of which 3 were approved for funding.

Team Grants

The objective of Cardiovascular Complications of Diabetes Team Grants is to strengthen Canadian and international health research by supporting teams of talented and experienced researchers conducting high-quality research and providing superior research training and mentorship. Canadian research will be enhanced by the opportunity to include international collaborators from Finland, as team members, whose research contributions will be supported through funding from their home country. The program emphasis is on the production of new knowledge, and the translation of research findings into improvements in the health of populations and health care systems.

New Discoveries: High Risk Seed Grants

The objectives of New Discoveries: High-Risk Seed Grants are to:

promote the development of novel, innovative, inventive, high risk, and high impact health research;
create an environment and review culture in Canadian health research that supports novel and innovative applications and ideas;
to generate preliminary findings and results necessary to pursue more comprehensive funding opportunities (e.g., proof of principle, operating grants, etc.);
facilitate the rapid exchange of research findings through appropriate communication strategies.
