Research Personnel Awards - March 2007 Competition Decisions

CIHR's Research and Knowledge Translation Committee (RKTC) met on March 27, 2007, to review the results of the Research Personnel Awards competitions. Their decision to fund the awards listed below reflect the recommendations made by the Sub-committee on Programs and Peer Review (SPPR).

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) wishes to take this opportunity to register its appreciation for the diligence and dedication of thousands of scientists who work as volunteers within the peer review system to ensure maintenance of its high standards for scientific excellence and fairness. The CIHR Governing Council also wishes to convey its congratulations to those applicants who have been awarded funding in these competitions, and to express its respect for the many applicants who, while not successful this time, represent critical components of the health research community in Canada.

Studentships: CIHR-Rx&D Collaborative Research Program received a total of 66 Studentship applications, 54 were recommended for funding.

Doctoral Research Awards: CIHR received a total of 827 Doctoral Research Award applications, 144 were recommended for funding. This includes applications funded through the CIHR Doctoral Research Award, Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) Doctoral Award and Industry-Partnered Doctoral Research Award Programs.

Fellowships: CIHR received a total of 499 Fellowship applications, 87 were recommended for funding. This includes applications which were funded through the CIHR Fellowship, Clinical Research Initiative (CRI) Fellowship and Industry-Partnered Fellowship Programs.

Clinician Scientists: CIHR received a total of 38 Clinician Scientist applications (19 Phase One - New, 4 Phase One - Renewal, 10 Phase Two - New and 5 Phase Two - Renewal), 24 were recommended for funding. All awards are funded through the Clinical Research Initiative (CRI) Clinician Scientist Program.

New Investigators: CIHR received a total of 292 New Investigator applications, 59 were recommended for funding. This includes applications funded through the CIHR New Investigator and Clinical Research Initiative (CRI) New Investigator Programs.

For those candidates who requested consideration for funding through one or more of CIHR Priority Announcements, results may not yet be available and will be posted as soon as they become available. The above information will be updated regularly.
