As one of four federal partners under the Federal Initiative, CIHR-III administers the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative and funds meritorious research grants and personnel awards in strategic areas of HIV/AIDS research. In keeping with the intent of the Federal Initiative, the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative promotes Canadian research, which increases our understanding of the virus, the epidemic and effective responses.
This specific Request for Applications was intended to enhance research on the prevention of HIV and to build future Canadian research capacity in this area. Projects are expected to contribute to the identification of new or improved prevention strategies, ranging from novel technologies to innovative public health interventions, which will help reduce the further spread of HIV. Applications were evaluated based on the excellence of the proposed project and the potential for capacity-building within the project.
