Archaeological dig at Spadina House in Toronto (26K)Since 2002, the Trust has offered – in partnership with the Spadina Museum in Toronto – two one-week summer day camp programs in archaeology. Check the Toronto Parks and Recreation Department's Summer Fun Guide for details. Additional opportunities in other parts of the province are posted on our website as they become available.

From year to year, groups will differ but we usually welcome children within the age range of 8 to 14 years. In 2003, our focus was on 10- to 13-year-olds.

At our digs, children learn how to excavate, how to recognize soils, how to identify artifacts and how to participate in workshops geared toward understanding why archaeologists dig so carefully. The archaeological site is a recognized site; they will be working alongside professional archaeologists who supervise them in the field. Field trips, too, are occasionally planned. For instance, in 2003, participants visited the Toronto Archives.
