As the fall months roll over, Canadians find themselves with a change of scenery. Why not take advantage of the harvest season and warm the heart with some authentic Canadian cuisine? The Canadian autumn season brings us apples, pumpkins, wine and more, not to mention lots of seasonal events taking place. Check out these great Web sites for recipes, upcoming farm tours and festivals for the fall season.

Food for the Fall

Le Qu‚bec en images, CCDMD.If you’re looking for pumpkin pie and turkey stuffing recipes or maybe something a little less traditional to spice up your family dinners, these great Canadian sites boast tasty seasonal recipes easy enough for anyone to get to the kitchen and stir up something new.

  • Recette du Québec (French only) offers mouth-watering recipes of all kinds. Search by ingredients or check out their “Top 10” list, “Recipe of the Day” and heart healthy recipes too.
  • With 5000 recipes at hand, you can find almost anything in The recipe box. This site from Blainville, Québec, also offers a section on International cuisine.
  • FoodTV, a television network that focuses only on cooking, is packed with recipes, tips, contests, host interviews and program information. Search through their recipes by ingredient, dish, occasion, shows and more.

Family Fun

West

  • In Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, get lost in Meadows Maze, a 15-acre corn maze with 12 hidden stations. There’s also a bee observatory and train or wagon rides. And don’t miss Cranberry Day on October 7, where you can take a tour of the bog and taste all kinds of fresh cranberry products.
  • In Abbotsford, The Apple Barn is hosting fall festivities until October 31 with its apple and pumpkin picking, pony rides, mazes, orchard tours, and concession on weekends.
  • This year in Alberta, the Lacombe Corn Maze is in its 8th season. Try to find your way though the 14-acre maze or visit the picnic areas, fire pits, corn cannons, farm animals and more.
  • Also in Alberta, the Prairie Gardens and Greenhouses, in Bon Accord, invite you to pick veggies and pumpkins, just check their crop report for updates. Be sure to stick around for their Haunted Pumpkin Festival, every weekend in October.

Central

  • In Crysler, Ontario, the Cannamore Orchard has tours in English and French along with apples to pick and mazes to explore. In October, get in the Halloween spirit with their Spooky Wagon Ride.

  • Join La Magie de la Pomme for its 10th anniversary, in Saint-Eustache, Québec, for an educational visit to the farm. This bilingual site offers programs, schedules, photos and a menu of their tasty homemade creations.
  • In Montréal, the Botanical Gardens has an exciting Autumn in the Garden for you to explore from September 8th until the end of October.
  • In Notre-Dame de l'Île-Perrot, Québec, La Ferme Quinn invites you to experience the activities of learning about agriculture in a fun and real environment. Check out their annual event listings.
  • How about checking out a certified organic farm? Ferme Le Crépuscule (French only), in Yamachiche, Québec, is home to the world’s only certified organic sugar shack.

East
