The next five to ten years will unquestionably see a revolution that will greatly reduce or eliminate the severe effects of many forms of cancer. Dramatic advances in genomics and functional proteomics will allow much more effective cancer diagnosis, prevention and therapeutic intervention. The Institute of Cancer Research must be well positioned to support and facilitate the onset of this new age as our successes will create a great number of exciting new research challenges in population health and health delivery, as well as in critical basic and clinical research issues. I greatly look forward to working with many of you to create an exciting and world-class environment for cancer research.
