The Geee! In Genome is an innovative, multi-dimensional public education project, which explores the exciting new field of science known as genomics.
As of January 17, 2006, this exhilarating exhibit arrived at the Discovery Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Premier John Hamm and Tom Smith, the son of the late Dr. Michael Smith, a Nobel-prize winning chemist to whom the exhibition is dedicated, were on site at the Discovery Centre to officially celebrate its arrival.
On April 25, 2003, former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and Dr. Alan Bernstein, President of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) launched the Geee! In Genome at the Canadian Museum of Nature.
On September 1, 2003, the exhibit left the Canadian Museum of Nature to begin its educational travels across Canada. On October 2, 2003, the Honourable Gordon Campbell, Premier of British Columbia, along with Dr. Bruce McManus, Scientific Director of CIHR's Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health, opened the Geee! In Genome at Science World in Vancouver British Columbia.
The exhibit has since moved to the Saskatchewan Science Centre in Regina (January 2004), the St. Boniface Research Centre in Winnipeg (April 2004), the Povincial Museum in Edmonton (July 2004), the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto (October 2004), Centre des sciences in Montréal (January 2004), New Brunswick Museum in St. John (May 2005), and Musée du Fjord in La Baie, Québec (September 2005).
