Institute of Infection and Immunity (III)

What We Do

As one of the thirteen Institutes of CIHR, the Institute of Infection and Immunity shares responsibility for achieving the principal objectives of CIHR.

This Institute is dedicated to supporting research and building research capacity in infectious disease and immunity. Our research priorities are described in detail under Research, and in our Strategic Plan.

III research funding supports researchers located in universities, hospitals and other research centres across Canada, and around the world in a number of different ways including development and funding of strategic research grants, and through funding of capacity building programs including training programs. For more details on funding opportunities, including information on how to apply, please see Funding.

III also hosts and sponsors meetings, conferences, workshops and other innovative events. For proceedings and reports from past events please see Conference Proceedings under Publications & Resources. For a list of upcoming III events, please see Calendar of Events. For a list of current workshop funding opportunities and details on how to apply for workshop support please see Funding.

The III plays an important role within our community, helping to forge links, encourage interaction and increase sharing of knowledge and expertise. Our Institute Advisory Board (IAB) provides community input and guidance into everything we do, and our IAB meetings, held across the country, serve as a forum for feedback and discussion. Strategic partnerships with a variety of organizations also allow us to broaden our horizons and work cooperatively in the global battle against disease and infection.
