The objectives of the Research on Aging Advancement Program (RAAP) are to:
Research and knowledge translation within and across CIHR's four research themes: Bio-medical, Clinical, Health Services, and, Social, Cultural, Environmental and Population Health will be required to achieve the goal of advancing knowledge in the field of aging to improve the quality of life and the health of older Canadians. The 5 priority topics through which the CIHR IA aims to meet this goal are listed above.
* Generally, support for international activities will be approved ONLY if designed specifically to spotlight CIHR IA, Canadian researchers on aging, and the work or programs funded by the CIHR IA.
One year, non-renewable grants to a maximum of $10,000 will be awarded 3 times annually. Annual or recurring meetings or events are not eligible for funds within this program. Groups having similar composition of participants and/or objectives are eligible to receive only one grant per 2 calendar years. See below for instructions on how to apply to this Program.
Eligible applicants include investigators holding research appointments at a Canadian institution, as well as professional associations and NGOs whose main focus of activity lies within one or more of CIHR IA's priority topics. Collaborators may be from outside of the traditional research fields and could include recognized experts in communications, marketing, education, fine arts, etc. Applicants are strongly encouraged to secure partial funding from other sources.

Applications will be reviewed by senior CIHR IA staff. Where there is a perceived conflict of interest, applications will be reviewed by senior staff of another CIHR Institute. Based on the total funds available for the initiative, top-ranked applications within each competition will be funded.
It will be incumbent on the applicant(s) to identify how their proposed initiative meets one of more of the objectives of the Research on Aging Advancement Program, and to outline the anticipated benefits relative to the proposed costs.
