The conference will explore health human resources planning and management issues at all levels of the health-care system in Canada. CIHR is one of the organizers.

November 13 and 14, 2007: The First Canadian Workshop on Bed Rest Studies
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA), the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and the CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA) invite you to participate in a unique event. This workshop will be held preceding the annual meeting of the CSEP at the London Convention Center, and will focus on training methods to maintain musculoskeletal and cardiovascular function in weightlessness or simulated microgravity (bed rest).

November: Quench your scientific thirst
With CIHR's Café Scientifiques, CIHR is helping to bring accessible health research and science discussions between experts and the general public to informal venues (such as restaurants, bars or cafés). CIHR and some of its Institutes have already hosted Cafés dealing with health subjects such as obesity, healthy aging, mental health in the workplace, Edmonton housing, the hazards of urban living in Halifax and the effects of air pollution on citizens in Toronto.

More Institute-affiliated Cafés are set for the near future with the Institute of Genetics concentrating on the positives and negatives of personalized medicine in November (location and date TBD). For more information, please visit CIHR café scientifique.

October 25, 2007: Conference on Advances in the Treatment of Cancer
Attend a two-day conference at the University of Toronto (MacLeod Auditorium, Medical Sciences Building, 1 King's College Circle), on October 25 and 26, featuring lectures by acclaimed scientists such Dr. Robert Horvitz, Nobel Laureate from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Join leading scientists as they discuss cancer prevention at an all-day forum on October 24th, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the University of Toronto. Admission is free.

October 23, 2007: Gairdner Public Lecture
The Gairdner Foundation welcomes the public to attend a lecture by Dr. Dennis Slamon on October 23rd from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at MaRS, 101 College Street, Toronto. Dr. Slamon will discuss the role of molecular diversity in creating cures for cancers.

October 14, 2007: "Workshop on Asthma in the Workplace" Education Day
The workshop is organized by the Center for Asthma in the Workplace, which receives CIHR funding to study the relationship between asthma and the work environment.

CIHR invites journalists for a unique opportunity to explore and discuss the latest in mental health discoveries with today's research leaders from Quebec including Dr. Rémi Quirion, Dr. Sonia Lupien, Dr. Gustavo Turecki, Dr. Karim Nader, Dr. Michael Meaner, Dr. Ridha Joober, and many more.
