With the recent resurgence of interest in the Canadian Arctic regarding sovereignty, environment, law enforcement, etc.—partly due to the anticipated increase in economic activity (whether due to global climate change or other factors) in such an environmentally sensitive area—there has been a steady increase in interest for improved Situational Awareness in the Arctic and an improved ability to respond to
contentious events and emergencies.
Improvement in these areas can be realized, at least partially, through an increased presence and through improvements to the Arctic C4ISR (Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) framework. Given the huge area encompassed by the Canadian Arctic, it is believed that one of the best ways to improve Canada’s response to any rapid development is to improve the C4ISR framework.
The purpose of this first Conference and Exposition is to identify as many of the issues as possible and solicit potential concepts for improving this framework. The Potential Conference Topics will focus on Arctic C4ISR issues and possible solutions for the Arctic.
