Wired, networked, and now wireless, Canada is among the most connected countries in the world. Canadians welcome and embrace change. It’s in our culture. After all, one of the precursors of the digital revolution is a certain Alexander Graham Bell.

Canada now ranks among the most technologically advanced countries in the world. Canadian firms, institutions and individuals have led many of the more significant advances in the areas of information technology and communications, with applications that are bringing genuine benefits in science, art, industry and leisure.

While it is true that we create our technological tools, these tools in turn change the way we interact with others, the way we work, the way we learn, the way we play, the way we perceive the world and the way we present Canada to the world. Digital tools have had a profound effect on all facets of our lives. Today there are very few areas of our culture that do not bear the traces of the incredible advances of digital technology.

Many elements of the digital culture require some adaptation, and some adjustments. While it increases the pace of life and creates legal and societal questions, the fact is that it brings people together over vast distances. Nowhere is this truer than in Canada.
