Heritage Organizations in Canada

Research, preservation, promotion and education related to Canadian heritage are based in strong institutions and associations that ensure we don’t loose sight of the road that brought us here.

These organizations are, for the most part, public institutions that include museums, libraries, archives and academic institutions.

Generally accessible to the public, those institutions provide far more than public expositions. They are the holders and discoverers of the history of Canada. They conduct research on all facets and periods of our history, restore artefacts and ensure our continued link to those objects, and they provide educational services by making resources available to Canadians.

Private organizations such as historical and genealogical societies and those who protect built heritage also play a key role in the preservation of our heritage. They gather data and testimonials, restore sites of historical significance, and pursue the ongoing efforts of uncovering the history of Canada.

The sum of the work accomplished by the professionals and enthusiasts from all these institutions and groups ensures that we stay in touch with our past and that we continue to discover who we are.
