Heritage Funding in Canada

Our heritage and our history are treasures that can be forgotten if some effort to keep it alive is not deployed. The facts become blurred when the circumstances around them are not recalled and the evidence is left behind and not allowed to tell its story.

Each year an impressive amount of funds, through a number of support programs, provide assistance to the research and the promotion of Canadian history.

Academic institutions throughout the country allocate funding to history departments to pursue academic projects. A large number of corporations and individual donors support organizations such as the Histor!ca Foundation and the Heritage Canada Foundation that promote history education and develop resources to help everyone discover Canada’s exciting history. Governments provide strong support to fund museums that are key sources for the preservation and education about our heritage.

The funds are provided to organizations and people who have a deep commitment to ensuring that our past continues to tell its story – and who bring an immense contribution in keeping the body of historical knowledge alive for future generations.
