Rod Bruinooge, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status IndiansRod Bruinooge was appointed to the House of Commons in January 2006 and  was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians in February of the same year. 

Mr. Bruinooge is originally from the Northern Manitoba city of Thompson. As a Métis citizen, he enjoys meeting with community groups and Aboriginal leaders to help resolve long-standing issues concerning Canada’s First Peoples.

In 2005, Mr. Bruinooge founded the Winnipeg International Film Festival and acted as its executive director until February 2006. Mr. Bruinooge has served as Communications Coordinator for the Winnipeg Aboriginal Film and Video Festival, Director of the Riverview Health Centre and the Manitoba Children’s Museum, Council Member of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, and Environmental Coordinator of the North American Indigenous Games. 

Mr. Bruinooge holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Manitoba.
