ecoENERGY for Fleets

February 15, 2007

With a total investment of $22 million over four years, the ecoENERGY for Fleets Initiative is designed to provide reductions in fuel use and related costs, air contaminants and GHG emissions through a wide range of measures targeted at both operators and managers of Canada's commercial and institutional road vehicle fleets, including:

  • promoting the uptake of existing and emerging new technologies such as energy-efficient vehicle components and hybrid technologies;

  • encouraging the adoption of best practices in vehicle, fleet and fuel management;

  • training in energy-efficient vehicle-operating techniques for professional drivers of heavy trucks, buses and construction and other vehicles. It is expected training will be provided for more than 200,000 drivers over the next four years;

  • training and workshops for fleet managers to enable the sharing of best practices through case studies;

  • anti-idling campaigns; and

  • technical analysis to identify additional opportunities for improved efficiency.

Other ecoENERGY Initiatives

The ecoENERGY Initiatives of Canada's New Government, managed by Natural Resources Canada, are a focused set of measures that will boost clean energy supplies, help Canadians use energy more efficiently and reduce air pollutants and other emissions from conventional energy sources. These measures are part of the ambitious and realistic agenda of Canada's New Government to protect the health of Canadians and the environment of Canada, and demonstrates that this Government understands the importance of addressing climate change.

The ecoENERGY for Personal Vehicles announced yesterday and ecoENERGY for Fleets initiatives complement the Government's Clean Air Regulatory Agenda announced last fall, and join three other ecoENERGY Initiatives already in place:
