CIHR collaborates with Actua to deliver educational summer camps and workshops across Canada devoted to educating youth about the value of health research. These camps and workshops involve a network of 27 Canadian university and college-based members who provide hands-on scientific experience for all youth - including those who have been known to be left behind. This includes Aboriginals, children from remote locations, girls, and those who are underprivileged.
The workshops take place in schools throughout the school year - primarily in May and June. The summer camps last for one week and are offered throughout July and August. Each day consists of hands-on, discovery-based projects with different Synapse mentors. CIHR-funded researchers, graduate students or health scientists) are encouraged to incorporate their health research through interactive activities with youth.
