CIHR works with Actua to ensure that Canadian youth from Aboriginal communities experience hands-on and interactive science activities that remain true to their local culture.
The activities themselves are interactive camps and workshops for Canadian Aboriginal youth that include mentor presentations by a voluntary dream team including CIHR-funded researchers or graduate students. CIHR-funding also helps to support additional travel costs that are associated with sending these researchers to rural and remote Aboriginal communities.
The end-goal will be to encourage Aboriginal youth to understand how health research can benefit the overall wellbeing of Canadians as well as open doors for exciting science-based career opportunities.
