"Knit-Out" at the Canada Agriculture Museum in August

"Knit-Out" at the
Canada Agriculture Museum in August

OTTAWA, July 20, 2006
For immediate release

August highlights at the Canada Agriculture Museum include a Knit-Out event, Sunday, August 6, a variety of informative Daily Demonstrations, featured throughout the month for children and adults of all ages. The popular year-round Birthday Party program for children 3 to 12 continues in August. Also, visitors will have the chance to ride on the Tally- Ho Wagon pulled by Clydesdales or Belgians, weather permitting. Visitors can explore the sights, sounds and smells of the animal barns, a demonstration farm in action, as well as informative exhibitions.

Among the many daily demonstrations, visitors can have a "tasteful" experience with cheese making and tasting, discover farm animals that are cousins, learn all about the fruits of our labour in the demonstration garden and watch a milking machine in action. Museum-goers can discover the exhibition The Farm: Plugged-In and discover the impact electricity had on farmers' routine household chores, from the turn of the last century to today, in this exhibition tracing the period of rural electrification in Canada. In Tractors, visitors can follow the 100-year-old story of the farm tractor from unfamiliar oddity to commonplace tool on the Canadian farm.

Knit-Out Event - August 6
Amateur and expert knitters are welcome to sit and knit outdoors in the Museum's Memory Park, rain or shine, on Sunday, August 6 from noon to 4:30. Participants can learn how to make cables, ask the Stitch Doctor questions about patterns, take knitting lessons, obtain free knitting starter kits and lessons, and much more! Free admission for knitters. Participants should bring their own chair. For more information, please contact Wendy, Ottawa Knitting Guild, at wendyjs@magma.ca.
