Excellence in Education Award for Promotion of Sustainable Practices
CMHC Ontario Region has established the Excellence in Education Award for Promotion of Sustainable Practices by educators.
The award honours outstanding educational contribution to sustainable practices in the fields of architecture, planning, landscape architecture, urban design, geography, engineering, and environmental studies. It recognizes educators who have integrated sustainable concepts in housing and community development into the academic curriculum. The award is intended to recognize and support higher standards in sustainable education and to highlight the importance of sustainable practices within communities.

- Pollution Prevention/Reduction
- Sustainable Planning/Practices/Projects
- Environmental Management
- Resource Conservation
- Technology and Innovation
- Environmental Design
- Waste Management

Winners receive a custom-made sculpture and certificate of achievement as well as recognition by peers and other academics, community and government leaders. Also, exposure including an awards ceremony and promotional activities and an opportunity to be a member of the selection committee for future EEA recipients.
Who is eligible?
Educators in all secondary and post-secondary institutions across Ontario. Nominees are eligible for one award per year, and the nomination deadline is May 31, 2007.
CMHC will send a small gift to those who submit a nomination.

If you wish to nominate someone for the Excellence in Education Award, the nomination form is available here in MS Word for downloading. The nomination form should be downloaded, saved into your MS Word program, completed, and e-mailed to RITT-OBC@cmhc.ca, or printed and mailed to:

Please review the core criteria carefully before submitting the nomination form. The person making the nomination can also serve as a referee. Please attach two letters of recommendation (one for each referee) in your e-mail, or include two letters when you mail the nomination form. Nomination forms must be submitted no later than May 31, 2007.

Core Criteria for Excellence in Education Award for Promotion of Sustainable Practices: - Two letters of recommendation/nomination are required;
- Nominee must demonstrate a long-term commitment to sustainable education (minimum of 2 years);
- The nominee has demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting sustainable concepts and stewardship;
- The nominee must demonstrate that his/her activities made an impact/were effective in supplementing current curricula or have been used successfully by others;
- The nominee must demonstrate the ability to create, innovate and/or integrate materials, activities, programs or concepts relative to sustainable concepts;
- The nominee has incorporated innovative educating methods or promoted in-house initiatives such as energy use, waste minimization, recycling, environmental awareness;
- Activities relative to the award must be ongoing or completed within the last 12 months of nomination;
- The activity must have a meaningful and lasting effect.
