Taymoore Balbaa: an exciting young architect
Taymoore Balbaa is an exciting young architect, the first winner of the Canada Council's Prix de Rome in Architecture for Emerging Practitioners. Though a recent graduate (Master of Architecture 2003) from the University of Waterloo, Balbaa has already worked on several significant projects:
- Manitoba Hydro’s New Downtown Office, Winnipeg;
- The Munk Centre for International Studies, Toronto;
- the Peace Centre, Jaffa; and
- the Parthenon Restoration Project, Athens.
He has worked with the award-winning firms of Kuwabara, Payne, McKenna, Blumberg in Toronto, Massimiliano Fuksas Architetto in Rome, and Menis Arquitectos in Tenerife, Spain. Balbaa is described as a thoroughly humanistic architect who addresses both material reality and social needs, and who hopes to combine creative craftsmanship with the basic provision of shelter.
