Canadian grain industry focuses on the future together
Winnipeg – Canada’s grain, oilseeds and livestock industry will come together this month to discuss future trends and upcoming opportunities in the agriculture industry.
GrainWorld 2007, Canada’s premiere annual grains industry outlook conference, will be held February 25 to 27 at The Fairmont Winnipeg.
“This conference is an excellent opportunity for everyone involved in the Canadian grain industry to get together to discuss staying competitive as the future unfolds, “ said conference chair Rick Steinke.
Highlights of the conference include:
- A look at future trends through outlook presentations for Canadian wheat, durum, barley, oilseeds, pulse crops, beef, pork and weather.
- A panel on “Investigating Giant Global Import Markets”, featuring speakers from India, China and Brazil.
- A panel discussing three different forms of energy: conventional, biodiesel and ethanol. Moderated by Richard Gray, a professor of agricultural economics, this panel features experts from The Scotiabank Group, Bunge Global Markets, and The ProExporter Network.
- An economic outlook, plus a look ahead at prospects for the new U.S. farm bill.
“It’s vital that Canadian farmers and the agriculture industry understand the direction that the industry is taking so that we can build strategies and forward-looking plans,” said Steinke, who is Director of Market Analysis for the Canadian Wheat Board. “This allows everyone to remain competive.
“The global marketplace is constantly changing and this conference is an excellent way to ensure the Canadian agriculture industry remains well-informed of the changes and is able to collectively respond to the challenges they face.”
GrainWorld was established in the early 1990s as a “summit” meeting for the main sectors within Prairie agriculture.
