CWB announces interim payments for 2002-03 crop year

September 19, 2003

Winnipeg - The CWB today announced interim payments will be made on most grades of durum and designated barley delivered to the CWB during the 2002-03 crop year.

Interim payments represent partial settlement of the proceeds due to farmers from the sale of their grain. Interim payments are issued after July 31st and are an earlier payment of proceeds that would normally be included in the final payment.

The interim payments for durum wheat are from $18 to $45 per tonne with the exception of No. 5 durum, for which there is no interim payment. The interim payments for designated barley are from $15 to $30 per tonne. The attached table shows the initial payment in effect at the end of the 2002-03 crop year, the interim payment and the total paid to date, basis in store Vancouver or St. Lawrence, for several base grades of durum and designated barley. A complete list is posted on the CWB Web site at www.cwb.ca. Payment rates for specific grades can also be obtained by calling the toll-free line at 1-800-275-4292. To estimate the remaining payments, compare the total paid to date with the CWB's July Pool Return Outlook (PRO) for the 2002-03 crop year which is posted on the Web site as well.

Interim payment cheques will be mailed to farmers on October 3, 2003. Direct deposit payments will be credited to most farmers' accounts by their financial institution on September 30, 2003. If you wish to defer your payment, please call the CWB at 1-800-275-4292 by September 25, 2003.
