Border Information Service

Notice: The BIS line is currently experiencing higher than normal call volumes. There may be a delay in responding to your inquiry.

The Border Information Service (BIS) is a computerized, 24-hour telephone service that provides general border services information on topics in four main categories:

  • Personal travel information,
  • Business importation/exportation,
  • Currency exchange rate information, and
  • Residency information.

If you call during office hours (08:00 - 16:00) local time, you can also speak directly to an agent for more specific information.

We welcome your comments, suggestions and questions, however for privacy and security reasons please note the following:

  • The CBSA does not reply by email to specific questions concerning personal or business cases. Please visit a CBSA office or call BIS;
  • We ask you not to email any personal information such as departmentally assigned case or file numbers, home or business address, passport numbers or other information;
  • We cannot accept and process changes of address by email;
  • We are unable to forward email messages on your behalf;
  • We do not accept emails that have attachments. These are deleted by our filters.
