GrainWorld celebrates a decade of looking into the future

Winnipeg -- GrainWorld 2001 will build on its decade of success by having the customers who buy on the world market and the exporters who compete for their business giving views on where world markets are headed. GrainWorld, Canada´s premier annual outlook conference on grains, oilseeds, special crops and red meats, will take place February 25 to 27 at The Fairmont Hotel in Winnipeg.

The customer panel includes grain buyers from Mexico, the United Arab Emirates and the United States while the exporter panel will be made up of representatives from Canada, Australia and the United States.

"We felt the most appropriate way of celebrating our tenth anniversary was to put the focus squarely on grain marketing issues," said GrainWorld Chair Brian White. "We are going to get an inside look at the markets straight from the source."

In addition to the regular outlook sessions, the conference will debate the merits of having a formal farm policy in Canada. After a presentation by Hartley Furtan from the University of Saskatchewan about Canada´s current agriculture policy, a closing panel of Canadian farm leaders will debate the merit of a formal farm policy in Canada.

Following a Sunday evening reception, the conference officially opens Monday morning with the Senior Vice President and Deputy Chief Economist of the Bank of Montreal providing a Canadian and international economic outlook. On Tuesday morning, Jon Davis from Salomon Smith Barney Inc. in Chicago, Illinois will be discussing the weather in 2001. The conference will close with an entertaining presentation from CBC´s Rex Murphy. Other highlights include Sandy Cushon, former host of CBC´s "Country Canada" as luncheon speaker and welcoming remarks from Canadian Wheat Board CEO and President Greg Arason.
