Olympic Dreams For A Few Lucky Kids Begin In The Canadian Rockies

The first Men's and Women's World Cup Downhill and Super G ski races of the season begin in less than a month, here in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. These races in Lake Louise, Alberta, are the most relaxed on the World Cup Tour. The reason? Only a small number of spectators bother to make the trip and thus access to the world's best is easy and enjoyable, for fan and racer alike.

This means that hundreds of young ski athletes are missing a golden opportunity. At the Lake Louise World Cup, aspiring ski racers can witness and observe the best skiers in the world, in close proximity. There are countless chances to get autographs and even race bibs, from the top seeded racers. No other ski race venue in the world, gives a young athlete such a close connection to the best in the sport.

"There is no question," says Hugh Tafel, the leading authority on luxury ski travel to Canada's West, "that being able to get close and personal to the world's best athletes helps motivate and inspire young athletes. Yet many do not realize that here in Canada, we have the #1 Best Venue to do this." Continues Tafel, "Many of our Alberta athletes have had this chance and are making waves now on the provincial and national teams. It is unfortunate that so many others are missing out".

It is not difficult to arrange a trip to the Canadian Rockies during the World Cup events. Accommodation is plentiful in Banff and at just 40 minutes away, the races are accessible via car or ski area shuttle bus.
