The McGuinty Liberals are taking another run at opening up past adoption records after deciding not to appeal a judge's decision quashing their adoption law.
Madeleine Meilleur, minister of community and social services, said the province will introduce legislation as soon as the legislature resumes at the end of the month.
She said the new adoption bill will include a disclosure veto for parents and adoptive children who don't want their personal information released.
New Democrat Marilyn Churley, who lobbied hard for the original bill before leaving provincial politics, said she's disappointed and that the province is watering down the law.
She said it's heartbreaking to think that some people will now be denied access to their own history because of the disclosure veto.
Conservative Norm Sterling had called on the government to bring in an amended adoption law and said the veto will give solace to people who don't want their information released.
