Activity 1: Researching the Species Wolffish

Curriculum Connections

Science: Grades 4-6

  • Describe the 3 types of wolffish found in Newfoundland and Labrador waters
  • Discuss how wolffish are adapted to their environment
  • Discuss how wolffish are an important part of the ecosystem

Objectives:

Students will learn about the three species of wolffish that live in the ocean around Newfoundland and Labrador, their habitat, food, and why they are considered at risk.

  • Library Books
  • Access to the Internet

Using the wolffish Fact Sheet provided in this kit (teachers may photocopy this fact sheet as many times as required); the internet and other resources, encourage students to learn as much as they can about wolffish. Students should create a report, an educational poster, or another way to share what they have learned with others.
