Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry

AECL is a Federal Authority under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA). As a Federal Authority under CEAA, AECL is required to perform environmental assessments on certain Projects that it undertakes.

Other Federal Authorities such as the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission are also required to conduct environmental assessments on certain Projects that AECL undertakes pursuant to paragraph 5(1) of CEAA.

An Environmental Assessment, with respect to a Project, is an assessment of the environmental effects of the Project that is conducted in accordance with CEAA and its regulations. For more information on the environmental assessment process, please refer to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency’s web site at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca.

Projects undergoing environmental assessment under CEAA are posted in the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry (CEAR). The Registry is a government-wide mechanism that facilitates public access to records related to environmental assessments conducted under CEAA. Specifically, the Registry provides notice in a timely manner of the conduct of environmental assessments and of public participation opportunities

Ongoing and completed Environmental Assessments at AECL sites are available on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry and can be accessed using the associated links:
