Biographical Notes
Mr. Piché was born and raised in rural Quebec and, after a seven year stint with the Canadian Air Force, he settled in Ottawa where he obtained an Honours degree in Economics from Carleton University.
Mr. Piché has over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sector. Prior to his appointment as Commissioner for Employers, he was the Director of National Affairs at the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB).
His other private sector experience included being an independent consultant to the federal government. From 1989 to 1993, he was Vice President (Programs), on loan from the federal government, with the Public Policy Forum, an Ottawa-based think-tank dedicated to promoting public-private sector cooperation in the development and implementation of public policy.While in government, Mr. Piché held the following positions: Executive Director of Labour Canada's Policy and Strategic Analysis Branch, devising policies concerning trade adjustment and labour-management cooperation; Senior Analyst in the Privy Council Office, responsible for Cabinet briefs on trade, investment and regional development issues; and senior analyst in Industry Canada.
