Employer of choice

At the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC), we work hard to be the kind of place everyone wants to work. We know that in today’s competitive marketplace, you have many options. That’s why we offer attractive salaries and incentives, a respectful work environment and a comprehensive benefits package for our staff and their families.

Working at the CTC

Flexible work arrangements
At the CTC, we’re flexible. Ours is a modern environment that allows for flex-time, a compressed work week, part-time arrangements and telecommuting, according to what the position requires. If your supervisor needs you to work additional hours, we offer compensatory time off or paid over-time.

Respectful workplace
We are committed to an environment in which we treat all employees with respect and dignity. We have zero tolerance for discrimination and harassment.

Our values
At the core of our values are innovation, collaboration and respect. At the CTC, our employees believe in the work they do and feel strongly about their commitment to Canada. They work hard to find new and creative ways to market Canada, and to work together as a team celebrating each other’s differences.

Outside the office
Throughout the year, the CTC sponsors several fun events for employees and their families. Our Social Committee plans these outings based on employee preference. The committee is always seeking new ways to encourage staff bonding outside the office in informal settings.

Benefits

Health and dental coverage
We give employees and their dependents a comprehensive health and dental package. This insurance covers 90 percent of most medical expenses, including prescription drugs and vision care. Our competitive dental plans pays 100 percent of routines expenses; 50 percent for major restorative prosthodontic and orthodontic services.

Life insurance
We offer life insurance coverage, including out of country coverage for employees and their families travelling on business or for pleasure.

Vacation
We want to be sure that our employees have the time they need to relax and unwind, and for personal development. We give all CTC employees three weeks of annual vacation leave; four weeks after eight years of service.

Sick leave
We understand that injury, illness and emergency health issues can cause a disruption in your regular work schedule. Employees earn up to 15 days per year of monthly sick leave credit to cover these kinds of absences.

Pension plan
CTC staff can feel confident about their retirement nest egg. We have a generous pension plan. We offer two different types of plans, depending on employment terms and conditions.

Employee assistance program
Today’s fast-paced environment can be stressful. For staff dealing with volatile personal issues, we offer an employee assistance hotline. This is voluntary and confidential. The counselling and referral service helps our employees and their families deal with marital problems, stress and anxiety, alcohol and drug dependency, as well as bereavement.

Focus on excellence

Continuous learning
The CTC supports employee training and development that’s directly related to the job. Continued education is an opportunity for staff to gain new knowledge and skills, for enrichment, preparation to meet future organizational needs and to ensure that we achieve our corporate goals. We are flexible about arrangements and will consider special assignments, project work, self-directed learning, seminars, evening courses and even the pursuit of academic degrees. We’ll cover a portion, or all, of the costs if you decide to further your education on your own time.

Awards and recognition
Our awards and recognition program acknowledges years of service and employees who go the extra mile. In each case, the purpose is to support individual accomplishments and encourage achievement of the CTC's mission and goals.

Employee orientation
We’ve designed our employee orientation program to personally assist each new person in adapting to work at the CTC. The HR department regularly hosts orientation sessions, including speakers from different CTC departments, such as information technology, finance, HR and so on.

Performance management
Our performance management program affords time for supervisors and staff to agree on objectives for the year. It also gives staff the opportunity to set personal objectives, review competencies and identify training and development goals.

Succession planning
At the CTC, our people are our most important asset. We are continually reviewing and revising our succession plans for the organization.
