Working in collaboration with industry and universities, the mission of IMS is to provide national leadership and to perform R&D into emerging information technologies related to the future hardware requirements in the areas of organic and inorganic semiconductor-based electronics and photonics.

The last decade has seen a revolution in the ease with which we can communicate visually and verbally from the farthest corners on the planet. The next decade may well be that of ubiquitous and intelligent sensors that monitor our health as well as that of the planet. Through its programs and projects in the areas of Communications, Health, Energy/Environment and Security, IMS will advance the frontiers of knowledge and help Canadian industry thrive in these globally competitive sectors.

Through the application of novel materials and components to solve problems posed by the need for advanced hardware, IMS has demonstrated its relevance and expertise.

The programs in Materials / Processes, Components, and Technology Base, include a high level of partnership and interaction with industry in areas crucial to the economic well-being of Canada.
