Peter Herrndorf was appointed to the Board of Directors of CBC/Radio-Canada in February 2005 for a five-year term.

Mr. Herrndorf is President and CEO of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. His career includes outstanding contributions to Canadian journalism, broadcasting, education, and the arts. In 1995, he was the first recipient of the William Kilbourn Award for lifetime contribution to the arts in Toronto. In 1998, he received the John Drainie Award for his lifetime contribution to Canadian broadcasting. Mr. Herrndorf is an Officer of the Order of Canada.

After working as a reporter, producer, head of TV Current Affairs and Network Vice-President at CBC/Radio-Canada in the 1970s and early 1980s, and as publisher of Toronto Life from 1983 to 1992, Mr. Herrndorf was Chairman and CEO of TVOntario from 1992 to 1999. Under his leadership, TVO acquired an international reputation for documentaries and quality children's programming, won an unprecedented number of national and international awards, and dramatically improved its financial position.

Mr. Herrndorf has given his expertise and leadership to a broad range of Boards, committees, advisory panels, foundations and other public and private sector organizations. Currently Chairman of the Canadian Broadcasting Museum Foundation Board of Directors and a member of the Canadian Arts Summit Steering Committee, he also sits on the Boards of the University of Ottawa and the Pinchas Zukerman Instruments Foundation. Some of his many previous roles include being a member of the Board of the International Council of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (the International Emmies); President of the Association for Tele-Education in Canada; President of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards; Chairman of the Stratford Festival, the Canadian Stage Company and of the Canadian Museum of Civilization; Interim Chairman of the Canadian Television Fund, and a member of the University of Toronto Governing Council.

Mr. Herrndorf is married to broadcaster Eva Czigler and has two children.
