Nezhat Khosrowshahi

Nezhat Khosrowshahi was appointed to the Board of Directors of CBC/Radio-Canada in February 2005 for a three-year term.

Ms. Khosrowshahi brings extensive business and public sector experience to the Board, as well as a longstanding commitment to the arts.

Ms. Khosrowshahi was born into a prominent industrial and mercantile family in Iran. After studying law, accounting, finance and planning, she founded in 1970 the City Trading Co., an importer and distributor of safety equipment that soon became the Iranian market leader. Ms. Khosrowshahi also served on the Board of Directors of Melli Industrial Group, Alvand Investment Company, Minoo Industrial Group, and a number of non-profit Iranian organizations.

In 1978, she left Iran, settling with her family in Vancouver in 1981. There she and her husband, Hassan Khosrowshahi, founded the Inwest Group of Companies, which included Future Shop Ltd. (subsequently sold to Best Buy Inc.) Through its subsidiaries, Wesbild Holdings Ltd. and Drug Royalty Inc., Inwest is a major real estate developer and invests in royalty streams in the pharmaceutical industry. Ms. Khosrowshahi is a member of the Board of Directors of Inwest Investments Ltd.

Since 1983, Ms. Khosrowshahi has devoted most of her time to charitable and community interests. She served on the founding Boards of the British Columbia Women's Foundation and the Vancouver Symphony Foundation, and on the Boards of York House School, the Vancouver Symphony Society, Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific, the Vancouver Museum, and the YVR Art Foundation. She was a trustee of the Encyclopaedia Iranica Foundation, of Columbia University, New York, and of Simon Fraser University. She also served on the committee for the 100th Anniversary Celebrations of St. Paul's Hospital and the Children's Hospital in Vancouver. She is currently a director of The Nature Conservancy of Canada.

In 1999, she received the "Outside Lines" B.C. Arts & Culture Award. In 2001, she was named Honourary Life Vice President of the Vancouver Symphony Society in recognition of her instrumental role in returning the symphony to financial health while eliminating its accumulated deficit.

Nezhat is married with two children and two granddaughters.
