Library and Archives Canada (LAC) will honour Canada's veterans through programs and events to commemorate Remembrance Day 2007

(OTTAWA) Nov. 9, 2007 - On Nov. 13, in collaboration with Veterans Affairs Canada, LAC will hold two special Lest We Forget workshops for high school students. The morning session will focus on the anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele, fought in 1917, and the afternoon workshop will feature the 65th anniversary of the Raid on Dieppe of the Second World War.

The 32 students, who are from across Canada, will research the personnel military file of a soldier using battle maps and war diaries, and write a postcard from the front using vintage First World War postcards or compose a telegram from the theatre of war.

"Library and Archives Canada remembers the men and women of Canada who served their country in times of war, so that we might enjoy the freedom we do, today. This Remembrance Day we are honoured to pay respect to those we lost, and to their families, as well as to the veterans who are with us today," said Ian E. Wilson, Librarian and Archivist of Canada.

Also at LAC on Nov. 13, a special exhibition featuring the Battle of Passchendaele, will be on display, and on Nov. 16 educator Brenda Campbell will describe the Lest We Forget project during LAC's monthly Kaleidoscope series.

All events take place at Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington Street, in Ottawa.
