Journalistic Standards and Practices
1. APPLICATION
1.1 CBC PRODUCTIONS
The policies in this book apply to all information programs and to all CBC online journalistic material. These programs include news and all aspects of public affairs (political, economic, social) as well as journalistic activities in agriculture, arts, music, religion, science, sports and variety.
1.2 BROADCASTING OF CO-PRODUCTIONS AND ACQUISITIONS
efore any commitment is made to co-produce a program with journalistic content, assurances must be obtained that it respects the Corporation's journalistic standards. In the case of acquisitions, it may happen that the Corporation wishes to distribute a specific document because of its intrinsic value as news, even if it strays outside usual standards in doing so. In such cases the matter is to be referred to the department head for approval, and such productions must be accompanied by a background statement to properly inform audiences about the context of the document.
2. INTERPRETATION
Policies are intended to be flexible enough to avoid rigidity while clearly distinguishing between the acceptable and unacceptable.
Should uncertainty arise as to the application of any policy, or should exceptional or unforeseen circumstances arise, the matter is to be referred to the senior officer in information programming or authorized delegate.
