QUIZ

Send in the Clones

Test your knowledge of replacement singers

By Sean Monkman
In what has to be a show-biz first, recently eliminated American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry has been invited to become lead vocalist for the hard rock band Fuel. Many of music’s biggest bands have pulled the old lead singer switcheroo. Roster changes happen for any number of reasons: creative differences (Duran Duran), personality clashes (the Pogues), the temptations of a solo career (10,000 Maniacs), untimely deaths (INXS), etc. While some new vocalists have led their bandmates to bigger and better careers, other stand-ins have signalled a twilight shift into concert tours solely for the devoted – or worse, triggered a slide into irrelevance.
