Louise Bourgeois: Maman
Louise Bourgeois’s gargantuan bronze spider has made herself at home on our Plaza. Acquired in 2005, Maman is 9.25 metres high and carries a sac of 26 pure white marble eggs under her belly. The soaring body and cage-like egg sac evoke a sense of security but also of entrapment, leading the viewer to question whether Maman is protector or predator.
