Services
As the government agency responsible for ensuring a fair and competitive marketplace for Canadians in the area of measurement, Measurement Canada offers a number of services, programs and resources to Canadian consumers and businesses.
Services
- Our Complaints and Disputes Service investigates matters of perceived inaccurate measurement for consumers and businesses.
- Our Approval Services evaluate measuring instruments before they are approved for use in Canada.
- Our Calibration Service calibrates and certifies physical measurement standards used to test and certify measuring instruments.
- Our Inspection Services inspect measuring instruments to ensure that they continually measure accurately.
- Our On-Line Subscription Service is a mailing list service to keep you informed about what is happening at Measurement Canada.
Our services are provided according to Measurement Canada’s Service Standards. We encourage you to provide us your feedback regarding the services you have received from us using our Service Feedback form.
Programs
- Our Authorized Service Providers Program offers several mechanisms to grant private industry the authority to provide services on Measurement Canada’s behalf.
- Our Legislative Review Program is Measurement Canada’s project to identify proposed changes to the Weights and Measures Act and the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act.
- Our Marketplace Monitoring Program is Measurement Canada’s program to gather data in order to evaluate the status of accuracy and equity in the marketplace.
- Our Sector Reviews Program is a consultation program used by Measurement Canada to obtain stakeholder views and ideas on possible changes to its programs and services.
- Our Net Quantity Inspection Program inspects commodities to ensure that stated quantities are delivered to the purchaser within the prescribed limits of error and other compliance criteria.
Resources
- Our Notice of Approval Database is a searchable database of all devices approved for use in trade in Canada.
- Our Contractor’s Registry is a searchable database of electricity and natural gas contactors, as well as an application for those wishing to apply to become a contractor.
- Our Gravity Tolerance Application is a tool designed to assist you in determining whether gravitational pull is a factor to be considered in where your scale was serviced or repaired and where your scale is installed.
- Our Pseudo-Random Sampling Application generates one or more pseudo-random samples without replacement from a finite lot.
- Our List of Accredited Service Providers is a directory of all the organisations accredited to verify measuring devices on Measurement Canada's behalf.
- Our List of Registered Service Providers is a directory of registered organisations to verify measuring devices on Measurement Canada's behalf.
- Our Forms Directory contains the many forms used to request services from Measurement Canada, to apply to become an authorized service provider, etc.
- Our Publications Directory contains Measurement Canada’s various publications providing information about our services and programs.
- Our General Bulletins Directory contains detailed documents describing the application and interpretation of the legislation.
- Our Related Links Directory contains links to external sites containing important or related information.
