When Dusty Cohl and Bill Marshall started a film festival in Toronto back in 1976, they could hardly have imagined that it would grow into one of the most important, most inclusive, most influential — not to mention largest — film festivals in the world. Back this year for its 31st edition, the Toronto International Film Festival’s appeal now extends far beyond art: the glitz and glamour of the parties and megawatt celebrities are always hot news, and the business side keeps industry types tuned in to the high-stakes wheeling and dealing. What will be this year’s breakout hit? We’ll soon find out: the 2006 edition of the festival runs September 7 to 16.
