Building Canada - Stronger, safer, better

Proactive Disclosure

Overview

The Government of Canada is working hard to enhance the role of Parliament and the proactive disclosure of information so that Canadians are better able to hold Parliament, their Government, and public sector officials to account.

To this end, the Government announced the mandatory publication on departmental web sites of travel and hospitality expenses for selected government officials (effective December 12, 2003); contracts entered into by the Government of Canada for amounts over $10,000 (with only limited exceptions such as national security); and the reclassification of positions.

Contracts over $10,000 and the reclassification of positions were posted as of October 31, 2004, including contracts and reclassifications dating from April 1, 2004.

The Treasury Board Policy on Internal Audit (effective April 1, 2006) requires that completed internal audit reports be posted on to the departmental public web site. (Prior to April 1, 2006 only summaries of the completed internal audit reports were required to be posted).  Infrastructure Canada provides at this web site information on its completed internal audits.

As per Treasury Board Policy on Evaluation (effective April 1, 2001), summaries of evaluation reports are provided on this web site and the completed evaluation reports are available to the public with minimal formality in both official languages.
