The Reference Services Room and the Reference Collection Room are both located on the 2nd floor. For hours of operation, please visit the page Opening Hours.

The Reference Collection Room contains a large number of published reference works.

The reference specialists in the Reference Services Room help users make the most of the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) collection.

They provide, for example:

  • information and advice on conducting research in records and publications in all types of media
  • help in thematic and bibliographical research
  • help in using our Research Tools
  • help in using special databases
  • referrals to other special LAC collections
  • suggestions for developing research strategies

Reference Collection records must be consulted on-site at 395 Wellington Street in Ottawa. They cannot be borrowed through the interlibrary or inter-institutional loan service.
