The WSI is an important part of Human Resources and Social Development Canada's (HRSDC) Workplace Skills Strategy. A major objective of the WSI is to fund projects which respond to a range of skills-related challenges in Canadian workplaces, in order to improve our productivity and position ourselves to effectively compete in the global knowledge-based economy.

To help Canadians meet the challenges of skills imperatives to ensure our success now and in the future, the WSI invites eligible organizations and their partners to develop project proposals that address one of the following areas.

Newcomers to Canada - Overcoming barriers, upgrading technical and essential skills, matching jobs and skills, and/or improving essential skills of newcomers to Canada in Canadian workplaces, particularly those in non-regulated occupations.

Older Workers - Increasing labour market participation of Older Workers to support recruitment, retention and knowledge, and the transfer of skills.

Low-skilled Workers - Enhancing the employability and skills of lower-skilled workers or workers in low-skill occupations to suit employer needs.

Federal funding under this Call for Proposals will not exceed $2 million per year and will not be more than 2 years (24 months) in duration.

Completed application packages are due on or before  April 18th, 2007.
