ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED MILK IN LIVERWURST MADE BY TONY’S MEATS, ANTIGONISH, NS

OTTAWA, September 26, 2007 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Tony’s Meats are warning people with allergies to milk protein not to consume Tony’s Liverwurst products described below. These products contain milk protein that is not declared on the label.

Tony’s Fine Liverwurst and Mushroom & Onion Liverwurst, sold in approximately 300g size packages with Best Before 07 OC 04, are affected by this alert.

These products were sold only in Nova Scotia.

The manufacturer, Tony’s Meats, Antigonish, Nova Scotia is voluntarily recalling them from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk.
