Climatology is a branch of atmospheric science that studies past weather conditions averaged over a period of time. Weather elements such as temperature and rainfall are measured and averaged, typically over a 30-year period, to produce a description of the climate for a city, a region or even the entire globe.
Environment Canada maintains an archive of climate observations, studies trends and variability, and examines related phenomena such as global circulation patterns and atmospheric composition. It uses this information to develop sophisticated models for predicting future climate scenarios.
This section includes an archive of Canadian climate data, descriptions of Canada's climate on a season-by-season basis, and information on the processes that influence climate.
