Bringing CHN to Canadians: The CHN collaboration

The Canadian Health Network (CHN) is a multi-layered collaboration between major health organizations across Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada to provide an electronic gateway to credible, practical health information on health promotion and disease prevention.

Through CHN's single gateway, consumers have access to information that can assist them in making choices about managing their own health and well-being and the health of people they care about.

Affiliates, key partner organizations and the CHN Division at the Public Health Agency of Canada form the core of the CHN network. The CHN collaboration also includes hundreds of organizations that contribute online resources to the CHN web site. These Network Contributors include federal, provincial and territorial governments, hospitals, libraries, universities, non-government and community-based organizations.

Affiliates are recognized Canadian organizations who are the content specialists for the CHN. Affiliates manage the work related to building and maintaining the CHN collection by selecting resources for their specific topics, and they promote the CHN within their own fields of expertise. Working with other organizations in their topic areas, Affiliates review and choose quality resources, building and maintaining a collection of e-based health information for the CHN web site. In addition, Affiliates develop Frequently Asked Questions for their topic areas, prepare feature articles and respond to health information requests.

The CHN Division at the Public Health Agency of Canada manages the overall operation of the Network. This includes financial stewardship of the CHN, providing the technological platform for the CHN, and coordination of collection development strategies, evaluation activities and marketing and communications initiatives.

Network Contributors provide the quality e-health information resources available on the CHN website. From time to time, working with the Affiliates in their fields of expertise, Network Contributors may also assist in answering health information requests, developing frequently asked questions, developing feature articles, identifying and filling information gaps, and promoting the CHN.
