Fabricated Metal Products

The fabricated metal products industry in Canada serves the new construction industry and the major renovations industry. Forty-five percent of all construction materials fabricated in Canada are made of metal. Included are Fabricated Metal Products Manufacturing (e.g. forging and stamping, hardware, spring, wire, screw, nut and bolt manufacturing) and Architectural and Structural Metals Manufacturing (e.g. plate work, fabricated structural products, prefabricated components, concrete reinforcing bars, ornamental metal products, metal doors and windows).

Facts about the Construction Industry in Canada:

Capital expenditures on new construction and major renovations in Canada account for 13 to 14 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Recent annual surveys of capital construction indicate over $100 billion of economic activity. It is suggested that this amount understates the actual size due to the significant "do-it-yourself" and "black market" activities inherent in the construction industry.
