Furniture

The Canadian furniture industry produces furniture designed for use in households; institutions such as schools, hotels, restaurants and other public buildings; and office furniture. Furniture parts and frames as well as mattress, blind and shade manufacturing are also included in this industry.

The Canadian Furniture Industry is:

  • The 5th largest exporter of furniture in the world
  • A major contributor to the Canadian economy, employing 102,000 people in 2005
  • Export-oriented with 53 percent of the 2005 production being shipped outside of Canada, mostly to the U.S.
