In March 2004,
management of the Navigable Waters Protection Program was transferred to the
Department of Transport.
- Do you want general information about protection of the right to
navigation in Canada?
- Do you have questions about the Navigable Waters Protection Act (NWPA)
or the Navigable Waters Protection Program?
- Do you plan to build or alter an existing structure on, over, under,
through or across a body of water or watercourse and want to know what your
rights and duties are?
- Have you noticed, after some work has been completed, for example, that
navigation has been disrupted on a body of water or watercourse, and you
want to know whether the obstacle can or must be removed?
With the transfer of this program, Transport Canada is now also responsible
for the management of wrecks in Canadian waters.
- Have you discovered a wreck and want to know what your rights and
duties are?
- Do you have questions about Part VI of the Canada Shipping Act (CSA),
which deals with the Receiver of Wrecks?
